A Database Administrator is a Subject Matter Expert who has already developed a comprehensive toolkit of approaches and techniques. Has the ability to adapt to the needs of a business situation or project, can be a stand alone DB tech resource and can introduce methodologies and best practices;
Exposed to various projects of significant business value; able to act as Lead resource or serve as project lead if needed. Industry experience valuable, but not required.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Minimum 5 years experience gained from previous employers or from within the company.
- Able to foresee potential problems in a given design in anticipation to the entirety of the project.
- Can collect, store, manage, and enable the ability to query the organization's metadata. Without metadata, the data stored in databases lacks true meaning
- Able to oversee the requirement if the DBA recommendation is fitting and accurate.
- Able to ensure that the Backup files are accessible and functional.
- Able to implement a catching process and automate a process to correct or prevent similar data integrity scenario.
- Should also be able to discuss the impact and collaborate appropriate preventive measures with developers or Project Owners.
- Able to provide long term solutions based on assessments and investigations made by the DBA.
- Can oversee all scenarios that require the involvement of a DBA.
- Can validate the recommendation of the DBAs and provide alternative for options and apply industry standard best practices.
- Should be keen on best practices following industry standard in the current times.
- Can create roles based permissions to simplify user management. He/she should also be able to relay the recommended permissions to stake holders.
- Able to assess the need of acquiring additional disks to store the growing data space requirements.
- Knowledgeable in other DBMS products, such as Oracle, Teradata etc.
- Has an advance knowledge to network, servers and other IT peripherals that correlates to the use of the DB Server that the team supports.
- An expert DBA must be aware of other storage management approach implemented in other similar industry.
