Position Summary
Thomson Reuters is seeking a Compliance/Privacy Counsel. This individual will play a key role in supporting Program objectives and goals for 2021 and beyond. This individual will report to an Assistant General Counsel and will be considered a critical member of the team.
Duties/Responsibilities
  • Provide legal support in areas related to global compliance laws and regulations, including privacy and data protection, global trade (exports and sanctions), code of conduct and ethics, incident response and investigations, anti-bribery and anti-corruption, and other regulatory laws and guidance that impact that impact healthcare data, marketing, digital, product development, security, and technology
  • Perform assigned incident investigations and provide support under the direction of lead counsel
  • Conduct reviews of Business Associate Agreements and other privacy-related contracts/documents under the direction of lead counsel
  • Participate in and help organize stakeholder meetings
  • Participate in auditing and monitoring activities, including reporting
  • Create and publish monthly internal compliance newsletters/blogs/training documents for staff education
  • Respond to internal and external questions concerning Data Subject Access Requests or other requests for information
  • Communicate regularly and effectively with key stakeholders
  • Research regulatory changes, enforcement activity and other relevant issues that may impact global enterprise-related activity and growth, and communicate/educate the team and other staff on your findings, as directed
  • Assist with priority and project-specific tasks and reporting, including Mergers and Acquisitions, Integration, and Litigation
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities

Skills/Experience/Interests
  • Business-minded
  • Experience with legal research, analyses, and writing
  • Experience using, analyzing, and integrating software/tools/systems to increase program automation and efficiency
  • Ability to analyze and make Program-related process and policy recommendations in order to address gaps, increase automation and increase efficiency
  • Proficient in MS Office and similar tools
  • Strong project management/organizational skills
  • Adaptable, collaborative, and willing to learn
  • Skill/Interest in Policy drafting
  • Ability to assist with training content and e-Learning platforms
  • Skill/interest in contract reviews and negotiations
  • Ability to identify, assess, and mitigate risks, as well as make risk-based decisions
  • Skill/interest in working with product/application developers and beta testing
  • Skill/interest in implementing data protection by design and by default concepts
  • Knowledge of global data protection/compliance frameworks is a plus
  • Knowledge of international laws also a plus

Education
  • Juris Doctorate
  • Bachelor's degree in Legal Studies, Political Science, Engineering, Computer Science, Systems, Business or related scientific/technical field is a plus
  • Privacy/Compliance/Risk certification a plus but not required

Days/Hours Needed
  • This is a full-time position.
