Job Description

  • Leadership, Strategy & Planning
    • Lead and set the direction of Architecture, Solutions Design, and Engineering for Sun Life Shared Services. 
    • Mature the architecture, design, and engineering practice. 
    • Build a community of architects, designers, and engineers to mature practice, processes, and adoption. 
    • Provide governance on solution architecture and technology standards within shared services. 
    • Develops and executes functional plan for the group to support country IT teams and service centre goals. 
    • Provide leadership for teams to build applications architecture roadmaps to address obsolescence, compliance and adoption of new technologies for business use. 

    Stakeholder Management
    • Develop, maintain and further relationships with regional and global IT teams and stakeholders. 
    • Manage vendor relationship at appropriate levels to ensure appropriate solutions are delivered. 
    • Develop metrics and provide ongoing status reports to senior management. 
    • Influence senior executives and other architects on the adoption of technologies to achieve business objectives. 

    Innovation & Thought Leadership
    • Keep abreast of latest trends in technology and insurance and introduce innovation into the enterprise by regularly surveying market landscape for solution insights, direction, vendors, and methods to assess their viability for use within the enterprise and implement them if deemed viable. 
    • Act as a consultant and authority on matters of architecture, design, and engineering. 

    Resource Management
    • Acquire, develop, manage, and mentor resources within the team 
    • Forecast resource demand and manage supply. Ensures productivity and utilization of staff and general performance 
    • Develops and executes employee capability development plans and manage performance. 

    • Experience in leading architecture, design, or engineering for financial enterprises preferably life insurance. 
    • Experience in Digital and emerging technologies is a must. 
    • Deep understanding of technology and vendors in financial services industry. 
    • Experience in developing IT roadmaps with senior executives and able to influence and communicate effectively on the adoption of technologies for innovations. 
    • Excellent communication and presentation skills, able to engage conversations at all levels of senior management. 
    • Demonstrated ability to lead people and get results through others. 
    • Strong knowledge of IT systems, practices, methodologies and latest market trends. 
    • Ability to multi-task, deal with ambiguity. Navigate through a matrix organization and effect change. 
    • Must possess excellent problem solving skills for large complicated, ambiguous, and broad issues and able to work independently. 
    • Complex environment with a mix of technologies and different levels of IT maturities in each business unit. 

    Education and experience
    • Minimum 15+ years IT experience, preferably 5+ years in a multi-national financial services company especially insurance. 
    • Minimum 3+ years of experience acting in the capacity of Head of architecture, design, or engineering. 
    • Minimum 5+ years of experience in architecture, design, and engineering. 
    • Minimum Bachelor degree preferably with Master degree in Computer Science or Engineering discipline. 
    • Architecture and business technology certifications (TOGAF, LOMA, JAVA, Mobile, etc.) are a plus. 
    • Shared Services experience is a plus.
