Finance Director

Save the Children has been supporting communities in PNG since 1978, working of the country. As a member of the Senior Management Team, you will provide leadership in strategic, management and operational issues and share the overall responsibility for the strategic direction of the Save the Children Australia programs in Papua New Guinea and Vanuatu. You will provide advice, support and technical direction to a dedicated and experienced team to ensure optimum program impact. We don’t shy away from new ideas; we need you to stir things up.

Where you come in:

In this full-time maximum-term (3 years) position based in Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea you will lead the PNG and Vanuatu Finance teams to ensure accountability and compliance in all financial operations, as well as contribute to the ongoing growth and strategic development of the PNG Country Office as a member of the PNG Country Management Team.

Reporting to the PNG Country Director, the Finance Director works closely with the Pacific Finance Business Partner. Responsibilities include finance administration, fiscal management, award management, donor and partner relationship management, budgeting for new and existing awards, and financial, statutory and award reporting in both emergency and development programming contexts.

You will make an impact by:

Developing, in collaboration, an ambitious strategy for SCA in Papua New Guinea and Vanuatu

Contributing to the leadership of the country office

Supporting the development of an organisational culture that reflects our values, promotes accountability and high performance, and encourages learning, creativity and innovation

Aiding in the design and implementation of coherent organisational structure that is appropriate to program needs

Overseeing the financial management and compliance of Save the Children Australia’s PNG offices and programs

…Your experience working internationally has given you an awareness of country political, socio-economic and cultural contexts. You have emotional maturity and personal resilience that gives you an ability to work under pressure and react to sudden complex issues. You are an inspirational leader that enjoys building and motivating proactive teams, and has the skills to do so remotely.

This role requires:

A CPA, CA, CMA or Master’s degree in finance or business management

A minimum of 7 years’ management experience in a corporate or NGO environment, including a minimum of 5 years in senior management within a finance department.

Strong leadership experience, providing direction and support to a geographically dispersed team.

Demonstrated understanding of budgeting, business and financial planning including strategic budgeting and forecasting, as well as a proven understanding of multiple donor requirements and award management processes.

Proven visionary and strategic thinking skills.

Ability to manage a complex and diverse workload within tight time frames.

Highly developed relationship building, influencing and negotiating skills.

Previous experience working and living in a developing country, preferably in the Pacific.
